MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT-2012

A warm welcome to all new and returning members.

Well it looks like 2012 is a year for changes. There are a few rule changes, a new Equitable Stoke Control (ESC) system effective March 01, 2012 and we will need to change the wording in our constitution a little to accommodate a change to the duties of the Ottawa Valley Golf Association (OVGA) representative to include some additional communications duties. A special thank you to Pat Hohs for volunteering to take on this responsibility as the OVGA Communications Representative. There may also be a change of our district association from the Quebec Golf Association (QGA) to the Ontario Golf Association. This will not affect our relationship with the OVGA (the local chapter of the QGA) as we will still be eligible to participate in events they organize. There will be more information on this development as it becomes available.

Our Captains, Jerome Mizon and Jean Timmins, have worked hard to plan the calender of events in cooperation with the management of the club. Please join in the many member's events planned for the coming year.

Enjoy the coming year and have fun.

Your Club President

Bruce Malloy

MENS CLUB CAPTAIN REPORT – 2012

As Captain for 2012, I'm proud to welcome both members and visitors to the

Canadian.

The Canadian is a forward looking club and has embarked on a series of

improvements over the last few years which has resulted in a highly rated

golf course. The two new holes 5 and 6 of the east course have received

excellent reviews and our new world class practice facility is ready to

greet you whether you wish to warm up before a round, or engage in more

serious practice with the help of one of our golf professionals.

On the golf front, the executive team has prepared a series of events that

will be both enjoyable and challenging and I encourage all of you to check

the event calendar to mark the dates. After winning its section

last year, our men team will travel to Upper Canada Village in the middle

of July to compete in the always popular Intersectional OVGA event.

Come along and experience the course and clubhouse facilities for yourself.

You can be assured of excellent golf, good food and service and a very warm

welcome.

We look forward to seeing you at the Canadian.

Jérôme Mizon

MESSAGE FROM THE LADIES CLUB CAPTAIN-2012

Hi All,

Welcome back ladies and welcome new lady members. We are excited about the upcoming season and look forward to renewing friendships ..hopefully we'll see some new faces this year starting with our Ladies meeting on May 3rd  .  To register to attend, please email me at  LadiesCaptain@canadiangolfclub.com or sign up at the club.

We invite members who haven't ever golfed with us or previously golfed with us but haven't  golfed with us lately  to join us this year, both East and West Course Members. You will notice a few changes in the Tournament dates for ladies.  As voted upon at the Closing Meeting in September 2011,  they will take place on Ladies Day.  This is a new trial this year to help increase participation in trophy events.  For those who do not care to compete, you are still encouraged to sign up for Ladies day and just come out and play and have fun and enjoy great weather and super golf course conditions at The Canadian.

As of March 1,2012 the RCGA has changed how we record our ESC (Equitable Stroke Control).

Come to the meeting, we'll tell you all about it.

This year, The Canadian is hosting two OVGA Ladies Intersectionals, the Ladies in July and the Senior Ladies in September.  Thanks Mark.

I look forward to playing golf with you.

OVGA/COMMUNICATIONS  REPRESENTATIVE REPORT-2012

As the new OVGA/Communications Rep., I am looking forward to providing the Executive members and the members of the Canadian G. & C.C. with information regarding OVGA events and a Monthly Newsletter bringing you up-to-date on all our activities at the club.

As you all know from last year, each member who wishes to participate in an OVGA Tournament, now register themselves, with their latest factor, on the Blue Golf System.  This has been working very well.

When you wish to register for an Invitational Tournament, and need your handicap factor authorized, you simply fill out the “RCGA Certified Handicap Factor Form” and have it signed by the Men’s/Ladies’ Captain or our Pro Shop staff and take it with you to the inviting club.  You can print this form off the Golf Canada Website and I will print some forms and leave them with the Pro Shop.

Golf Canada has instituted changes to the Equitable Stroke Control which is in effect as of March 1, 2012.  Why the change?  The RCGA Handicap & Course Rating Committee approved the change after commissioning statistical research which revealed that the current Equitable Stroke Control method causes differences in Handicap Factors that are not necessarily  commensurate with a difference in ability, particularly for golfers in the higher half of each range of handicaps within the ESC table.  Below is now how it works.

NEW EQUITABLE STROKE CONTROL

9 OR LESS Course Handicap            Maximum of 2 over par

10-19 Course Handicap                      Maximum score of 7

20-29 Course Handicap                      Maximum score of 8

30-39 Course Handicap                      Maximum score of 9

40 and over Course Handicap           Maximum score of 10

As a result of the change to the handicap system the index range for Men's (A) class is 9.9 and under, the range for Men's (B) is 10.0 to 24.0 and the range for Men's (C) is 25+.  THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE TO THE WOMEN'S INDEX RANGES which are: (A) class up to 18.4, (B) class 18.5 - 27.4 and (C) class 27.5 and above.

The Canadian G. & C.C. Newsletter will be emailed to you and will list all activities for that month and any exciting member achievements.  Please ensure that the club has your most up-to-date email address.

Have a great 2012 golfing season!

Pat Hohs
